While these two Projects were in development, there were members of both of the Traditionalists and the Ministers of Science that splintered from the objectives of Embryo and began to research to meteorites that were acquired as the Projects move along. The Ministers of Science opted to do their research in an abandoned hydroelectric plant, whereas the Traditionalists opted to do their research in a small compound tucked away in Ashen Agony
The Traditionalist group of researchers discovered that by certain means of manipulation, fragments of the meteorites can be used to amplify magic. As they continued to press forward in this vein of research, they realized the purer the samples of meteorite were, the more their magic abilities could be amplified. At the same time however, it was discovered that prolonged exposure to the meteorite fragments would result in cognitive and physiological deterioration, despite the increase in power. These findings were reflected in the test subjects they experimented the purified samples on; their skin had become like paper, their veins turned black, their bodies became anemic in nature and their minds had become borderline feral. While some of the subjects died off from their deformities, others managed to escape their confinements when the researchers attempted to euthanize them. Realizing that such effects would be devastating, the remaining researchers hid away their findings before abandoning their compound, rejoining their comrades in the Phoenix and Embryo Projects.
Elsewhere in the Boglands, the Ministers of Science had delved into researching the meteorite fragments as a power source for machinery. At least, that's how it started. When one of the model generators the researchers constructed had its focusing lens maladjusted, it released an intense beam of energy that managed to burn through the wall of the testing room. While they were repairing the generator, they found that the runoff from the generators they made had caused mutations in the flora surrounding the old hydroelectric plant. Thus, Project Hydra was born. While one division continued looking into using the meteorite fragments as a power source, the other two sects of the project looked into developing energy weapons and mutating the local flora and fauna to create bioweapons. How far this project went remains uncertain, as the researchers vanished around the fifth year of their work. Not even the other Ministers were aware of where their fellow scientists went. All that remained of their presence was heavily-degraded generators, some of the less-important lab equipment, and a pandemic of mutations that had begun to affect creatures and vegetation outside of the Boglands. Everything else surrounding the work of Project Hydra was gone.
